<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device capable of surely preventing light leakage without preventing thinning. <P>SOLUTION: In the backlight unit, a light-emitting face of a point light source device (LED chip 2) arranged at a flexible substrate 3 is arranged against the end face of a light guide plate.
