PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat exchange efficiency by uniformly supplying a coolant introduced radially and circumferentially into a pressure vessel from a lower plenum to a core in a nuclear reactor. SOLUTION: In the nuclear reactor, a core barrel 46 is placed in a reactor vessel 41 with an inlet nozzle 44 and an outlet nozzle 45 and the core 53 is placed in the core barrel 46. Meanwhile, the lower plenum 58 is partitioned by the lower core plate 48 and the reactor vessel 41, a downcomer section 59 is partitioned by the reactor vessel 41 and the side wall of the core barrel 46 to form in the lower core plate 48 numerous communicating holes 61, 62, 63 and so on which allow the core 53 and the lower plenum 58 to communicate with each other and porous plates 71 to change the flow resistance of light water streaming in the communicating holes 61, 62 and 63 located in the center are provided in the upper part of the lower core plate 48.
