The valve (10) has a valve element (12) for opening or closing a valve seat (28) and cooperating with a valve piece (22) of the valve. The valve piece decompresses or pressurizes a high pressure chamber (26) under system pressure. The high pressure chamber is loaded with fuel through a hole (24) under system pressure. Another high pressure chamber (52) is formed in a region between the valve piece and the valve element. The high pressure chambers are in flow connection, and are pressurized when the valve element with the valve seat lies at a seat surface (30) of the valve piece.
