Optically active compounds of formula (I): in which R<1> is hydrogen or alkyl; X and Y are hydrogen or hydroxy; and Z is -NRR in which R and R are hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, or a cyclic amino group; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have enhanced anti-arrhythmic activity and may be prepared by a stereospecific synthesis process.
