<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To show that a non-modified HERV-W envelope glycoprotein expressed under the regulation of a promotor, or preferably a xenogenic promotor in vitro has a fusogenic characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: This method for detecting the expression of the envelop protein or polypeptide of a human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) is provided. The protein or polypeptide has a polypeptide sequence containing a specific sequence or a specific fragment, or a sequence showing by at least 80%, preferably at least 90% and further more at least 95% identity to the specific sequence or specific fragment as to any series of 20 amino acids, and also the fusogenic power of the protein or fragment in a cellular structure or the cells of a cell-cultured material is detected by showing the formation of syncitium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
