PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing agent and a washing method for an optical material composition which includes an inorganic compound having a sulfur atom and/or a selenium atom enabling to impart a high refractive index. SOLUTION: The washing agent includes a compound (A) having lactam or a mixture prepared by adding a compound (B) having aromatic rings to the compound (A). By adopting the washing agent and the washing method using the washing agent, work environment is improved, and a specific exhaust apparatus such as an alkali scrubber can be made unnecessary.
