An umbrella valve (10) includes an elastic cap (30), and an elastic stem (33) formed integrally withcap (30), having a center hollow portion (34), having an enlarged hollow portion (36) proximate (cap30), and having a bottom (44). The valve (10) has a needle (50) having an enlarged head (51) at aproximal end thereof for being snugly secured in enlarged hollow portion (36) of stem (33), having alower lateral hole (55) in a distal portion, having an upper lateral hole (56) proximate bottom (44) ofstem (33), and having a lengthwise center passageway (53) connecting upper and lower lateral holes(56, 55). A method includes providing a needle (50) for being snugly secured in one of a plurality ofelastic caps (30), needle (50) having a lengthwise center passageway (53) connecting upper and lowerlateral holes (56, 55). The method includes selecting a cap (30) from among the plurality of elasticcaps by determining opening pressure factors.
