PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head separation type camera apparatus capable of controlling a camera head and effectively promoting the miniaturization of the camera head without increasing the number of signal lines of a camera cable for connecting the camera head to a camera control unit for controlling the camera head even when the number of controlled units in the camera head is increased and to provide a control method for the head separation type camera apparatus. SOLUTION: The camera control unit (12) outputs serial data (SID) including information for specifying a predetermined controlled device out of a plurality of controlled devices (30a to 30f) included in the camera head (11). The camera head (11) identifies the controlled device specified by the received serial data (SID) and provides a selecting signal (CS) of an active state to the identified controlled device.
