PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly effective safety mechanism in a simple configuration, flexibly applicable to various kinds of doors and capable of compelling a worker to carry a fastening tool. SOLUTION: The safety mechanism comprises a pair of a fastened object 4 and a fastening tool 5 to regulate opening and closing of a door 3 partitioning an area where machinery 1 such as a manufacturing machine, a processing machine and the like are installed. The electric power is supplied to make the machinery 1 operable when both the fastened object 4 and the fastening tool 5 are connected, and is interrupted to make it inoperable when both are disconnected. The fastened object 4 is mounted in a door-setting unit 6 where the door 3 is fitted up, with a movable retaining member 7 for retaining the closing condition of the door 3. The retaining member 7 is constituted to stop connecting the fastened object 4 and the fastening tool 5 when the door 3 is opened, and to make both the fastened object 4 and the fastening tool 5 connectable when the door 3 is closed.
