<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of surely improving starting performance of a high pressure discharge lamp by irradiating a necessary and sufficient amount of ultraviolet rays to the lamp, using a starting light source having a simple structure causing no increase of a production cost. <P>SOLUTION: A starting light source to irradiate ultraviolet rays toward a discharge vessel during starting of lighting of a high pressure discharge lamp is formed of a discharge tube 18 which generates ultraviolet rays by a starting voltage impressed during starting of lighting of the lamp. The discharge lamp 18 includes an internal electrode 19 extended from a pinch sealed portion 23b formed at one end thereof to a light emitting part 23a, and an external electrode 20 provided adjacently and closely to both of the light emitting portion 23a and the pinch sealed portion 23b. In the external electrode 20, at least a portion provided in the light emitting portion 23a is formed of a holder H formed into a shape to grip and hold the discharge lamp 18 by bending a metal plate, and the holder H forms a terminal to fix and electrically connect the external electrode 20 to a conductor component 8 having a polarity opposite to that of the internal electrode 19. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
