PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide delivery of a pharmaceutical composition to the lower gastrointestinal tract of a mammal subject and pharmaceutically effective absorption of bisphosphonate with or without a food or a beverage. SOLUTION: There is provided an oral dosage form of bisphosphonate comprised of a safe and effective amount of the pharmaceutical composition comprising bisphosphonate, a chelating agent, and a means for effecting delayed release of both bisphosphonate and the chelating agent in the lower gastrointestinal tract.
