The actuating mechanism for release of the cover flap lock for the opening has a handle (12) located inside the vehicle within reach of the driver. It may be located below the front windscreen. The actuating element may consist of a spring-loaded pushbutton recessed in a section of the trim in the interior of the vehicle. Where the cover is for the fuel tank filling opening, the cover flap can swivel independently of the locking cover for the filler neck.
