PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar lighting device which attains both reduced thickness and power saving, and has excellent luminance uniformity in a partial drive system such as local dimming.

SOLUTION: The planar lighting device includes a plurality of light sources, a lower surface reflecting layer and a light diffusion layer opposed thereto. At least two or more light guide layers or at least two or more reflection layers which partially transmit light are disposed between the light sources and the light diffusion layer.
