PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition which does not deteriorate plant work efficiency and, when applied to the tread of a tire, can highly satisfy both of drivability and durability of the tire, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition is prepared by blending a rubber component containing a high molecular weight polymer (A) which is an aromatic vinyl compound-conjugated diene compound copolymer or a conjugated diene compound polymer and has a weight average molecular weight (expressed in terms of polystyrene) of 2.0×10<SP>5</SP>-3.0×10<SP>6</SP>with a low molecular weight polymer (B) which is an aromatic vinyl compound-conjugated diene compound copolymer having a weight average molecular weight (expressed in terms of polystyrene) (a) of 2.0×10<SP>3</SP>-1.0×10<SP>5</SP>, wherein aromatic vinyl compound blocks after ozonolysis have a peak molecular weight (expressed in terms of polystyrene) (b) of 5.0×10<SP>2</SP>-5.0×10<SP>4</SP>and a molecular weight distribution of >1.40, and a tackifier resin (C) in a blending quantity of 10-200 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber component.
