PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image display device which detects the aging deterioration of a UV filter to report the time for replacing the UV filter. SOLUTION: The video image display device includes: a lamp 3; a light valve 7 which modulates light-source light from the lamp 3; the UV filter 11 which is provided in a front stage to the light valve 7 and restrains ultraviolet rays in the light-source light; ultraviolet ray-detecting means 12, 45 which detect ultraviolet rays which pass through the UV filter 11; and a circuit board 2 which enables the results of the detection of the ultraviolet ray-detecting means 12, 45, to be externally used on the basis of the results of the detection.
