[Class 70] Rubber waste containing fibre is mixed with a solution of a salt, such as ammonium chloride, which dissociates with heat to form a weak base and a strong acid, and the mixture is heated in presence of air and steam and afterwards of steam alone. A product readily millable without washing is obtained. The mixture may be treated with air under pressure of 70 lbs. per square inch. Steam to raise the pressure to 150 lbs. is then admitted, the mixture of air and steam is expelled and replaced by steam alone at a pressure of 150 lbs.</p> |
