A cell balancing system (100) includes a first controller (102) for controlling cell balancing of a first set of cells (106_1-106_4) coupled in series, and a second controller (104) for controlling cell balancing of a second set of cells (106_4-106_7) coupled in series. There is at least one common cell (106_4) in the first set of cells and the second set of cells.
