The method involves displaying a transmission network (100) on a display unit (10) e.g. LCD display. A set of communication systems is assigned to the network, where each communication system is configured for communication between subscribers such as control unit (101) and field device module (103), over the network. The assigned communication systems are displayed on the display unit by selecting a selection area assigned to the network on the display unit using a mouse pointer (200). One of the displayed communication systems is selected using the mouse pointer after the area is selected.
