Flame retardant mixture for a thermoplastic polymer, comprises a phosphinic acid salt of formula (((R 1)-(R 2)-P(=O)-O) n ->(M-n +>)) (I) with an aluminum component (a) (5-95 wt.%) and a fusible phosphinic acid salt of formula (I) with a zinc component (b) (5-95 wt.%). M : metal, preferably aluminum or zinc; R 1, R 21-6C alkyl and/or aryl; and n : 1-3. An independent claim is included for a flame retardant polymer comprising the flame retardant mixture.
