PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated teller machine preventing incitement of crimes, by preventing an account balance value from being seen even if someone peeks from behind, except when the user confirms the balance value of his account. SOLUTION: When the automated teller machine is used to withdraw cash, a transaction screen as shown in the figure is displayed. A customer performs the transaction of withdrawing cash by inputting an amount of money to be withdrawn in a transaction amount display area 22 using keys 25-28 including numerical keys 24. When the transaction is started, the account balance value sent from a center system is displayed in a masked state to prevent other people from seeing the value. When the customer presses a "balance confirmation" key 31, the account balance value is displayed in the account balance value display area 23 only while the key is pressed or only for a predetermined period of time. If someone behind is detected by checking a camera image, the account balance value is masked and the account balance value display area is blinked to warn the customer.
