PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire tread, especially a rubber composition for a tire for use in running at a high speed, that is excellent in wet grip performance, wear resistance, durability and the like and has improved performance on ice and to provide a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition for a tire tread. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire tread is produced by blending at least hollow fine particles in an amount of not less than 1 pt.mass and not more than 30 pts.mass with 100 pts.mass rubber component so that the number average particle size in rubber is not less than 1μm and not more than 100μm and the particle size distribution index (PDI) in rubber is not more than 1.50.
