536,938. Anodizing aluminium and alloys thereof. McGLASSON, R., and BIRD, W. A. Aug. 17, 1940, No. 13140. [Class 41] Aluminium or aluminium alloys before being anodized by the chromic or sulphuric and oxalic acid methods are after polishing and cleaning with benzol, petrol, paraffin or alcohol, etched by treatment with nitric or hydrofluoric acid, ferric chloride, caustic soda or potash or alkaline earth hydroxides. Treatment with ferric chloride may precede or follow treatment with nitric or hydrofluoric acid. The anodized surface may be dyed by immersion in dye solution for example nigrosine in acetic acid and designs may be obtained by masking parts of the surface with gums, resins or shellac dissolved in alcohol, amyl acetate &c. The surface is sealed with lanolin dissolved in benzol. The surface is washed in water between the operations. |
