An air tag installation tool (10) is disclosed. The tool (10) comprises a first handle member (12) having proximal and distal (30) ends. There is a second handle member (14) having a proximal and a distal (18) end. The first handle member (12) and the second handle member (14) are connected to each other. The handle members (12 and 14) are movable between an open position and a closed position. In an open position, the distal ends (18 and 30) are spaced apart from one another. Similarly, in a closed position, the distal ends (18 and 30) are moved towards one another. There is ahead assembly (20) that is connected to the distal end (18) of the second handle member (14). The head assembly (20) comprises a core (24) and a slidable sleeve (26) that is positioned over the core (24). The sleeve (26) is slidable between an extended position and a retracted position. In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the tool (10) also comprises a piercing needle (50) having a proximal end that is received in the chamber of the sleeve (26) and a distal tip including a cutting edge. The needle further comprises a slot formed on an external surface. In this embodiment the tool further comprises a flexible needle holder (36) having an opening (38) that is secured to the first handle member (12). In use, the first portion of the ear tag is inserted in the slot of the piercing needle (50). Ear is then positioned between the distal ends (18 and 30) of the handle members (12 and 14) when is then squeezed. This causes the needle (50) to pierces the ear and the first portion of the ear tag to be stripped from the needle (50).Consequently, first portion of the ear tag can be positioned on one side of the ear and remaining portion of air tag can be positioned on the opposite side of the ear. |
