530,961. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges fur Elektrische Gluhlampen). July 7, 1939, No. 19862. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] In low-pressure discharge lamps with at least one electrode heated independently of the discharge and maintained heated by the discharge during full operation to provide a considerable part of the stabilizing impedance of the discharge a resistor whose resistance varies with the current through it much more rapidly than that of the heater, e.g. a barreter, is connected in series with the heater. The resistor is so chosen that in full operation the voltage across the discharge is as much as 60 per cent of the supply voltage. The barreter together with a high starting resistance and thermal switch which opens when the electrodes have been sufficiently heated form in known manner an integral structure. |
