The invention relates to a method for the recovery of ethylene glycol during the PET production process, wherein the water created in the esterification reaction is treated and subsequently mixed with a fluid containing 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane (MDO). The mixing is carried out in a vessel connected upstream from the rectification column. A displacement of the reaction equilibrium, and as a result a division of the existing MDO, occurs in ethylene glycol and acetaldehyde by means of increasing the water content in the fluid. After the expiration of a retention time intended for the division reaction in the vessel, the mixture is transferred to the rectification column, thereby returning the ethylene glycol created in the division reaction to the PET production process. |
