<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus simplifying a circuit configuration while suppressing an abnormal discharge energy. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a charger 41 having a discharge wire 42 and a grid 43 and charging a photoreceptor 44; a grid current detecting unit 80 detecting a grid current Ig; a control unit 51; an abnormal discharge detecting unit 70 detecting abnormal discharge generated in the charger 41; and a suppression resistance 67 for suppressing the abnormal discharge energy.
