PURPOSE: A vertical-type thermal reduction magnesium production apparatus is provided to improve energy efficiency and extend the lifetime of a retort by keeping the temperature of retort evenly. CONSTITUTION: A vertical-type thermal reduction magnesium production apparatus comprises a retort(1), a thermal reduction furnace(2), a plurality of condensers(5), and a gate valve. The retort is charged with raw material and generates reduced Mg vapor. The thermal reduction furnace heats the retort. The condensers restore magnesium by condensing evaporated magnesium reduced in the retort and connected to branch pipes branching from a magnesium vapor moving pipe(3) connected to the retort respectively. The gate valve controls the branch pipes selectively.
