In this touch panel-type portable terminal, an invalid area, in which input operations of a user with respect to a touch panel are not received, is identified beforehand. The portable terminal detects a tactile contact area of the user upon the touch panel, and if the tactile contact area is not included in the invalid area, executes a function which has been associated beforehand with the tactile contact area. In addition, a menu icon may be displayed in reduced scale upon the display area excluding the invalid area of the touch panel. As a result, it is possible to prevent erroneous operation caused by the user inadvertently coming into tactile contact with the touch panel when gripping the portable terminal. |
