The present disclosure relates to a photocatalyst comprising metal oxide semiconductor nanoparticles in crystalline form integrally formed on the surface of a substrate made of the corresponding metal and a method of making the same. There is also provided a photocatalytic water treatment system having a treatment zone comprising: a plurality of stages, wherein each stage comprises a photocatalyst comprising metal oxide semiconductor nanoparticles in crystalline form integrally formed on the surface of a substrate made of the corresponding metal and wherein each stage comprises a light source.
