PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element having excellent optical characteristics, and a stereoscopic image display device provided with the liquid crystal optical element.SOLUTION: There is provided a liquid crystal optical element 110 comprising a first substrate portion 11s, a second substrate portion 12s, and a liquid crystal layer 30. The first substrate portion 11s includes: a first substrate 11 having a first principal surface 11a; and a plurality of first electrodes 21. The plurality of first electrodes 21 are provided on the first principal surface 11a, extend in a first direction and are disposed side-by-side in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The second substrate portion 12s includes: a second substrate 12 having a second principal surface 12a opposite to the first principal surface 11a; and a second electrode 22. The second electrode 22 is provided on the second principal surface 12a and is opposite to the plurality of first electrodes 21. The liquid crystal layer 30 is provided between the first substrate portion 11s and the second substrate portion 12s. At least any of the plurality of first electrodes 21 has a main body portion 41 and a leading end portion 42. The main body portion 41 extends in the first direction and has a constant width in the second direction. A width of the leading end portion 42 in the second direction is wider than the width of the main body portion 41 in the second direction. |
