PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object recognition apparatus capable of suppressing an arithmetic amount required for recognition of a subject even in a case where brightness of a subject as a recognition object varies depending on an imaging condition.SOLUTION: An object recognition apparatus includes: an imaging section for creating an image by imaging a predetermined image range; a dividing section 21 for dividing the image into a plurality of subregions; an appropriateness determining section 22 for calculating a contrast for each of the subregions and includes, in a recognition object region, the subregions having the contrast of a predetermined threshold or more; and a recognizing section 23 for recognizing a predetermined subject in the image range from the recognition object region and do not recognizes the subject from the subregions not included in the recognition object region.
