PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for cleaning water, in each of which the concentration of iron in the water, that is to be treated and is iron-containing acidic water, is decreased efficiently and acidified weakly without using motive power. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning the 5-100 mg/L iron-containing water to be treated includes: an iron removal step of scattering the water to be treated on branches and leaves; and a neutralization step of circulating the water, which is to be treated and is treated at the iron removing step, through calcium carbonate. The apparatus for cleaning the 5-100 mg/L iron-containing water to be treated includes: a branch and leaf water scatter part for removing iron by scattering the water to be treated on branches and leaves; and a calcium carbonate treatment part for neutralizing the water, which is to be treated and is treated in the branch and leaf water scatter part, by calcium carbonate.
