This organic electroluminescent element has an organic light emitting body (10) formed on the surface of a substrate (1), said organic light emitting body having a first electrode (7), an organic light emitting layer (8), and a second electrode (9). The organic light emitting body (10) is sealed by being covered with a sealing substrate (2), which has a recessed housing section (3) for housing the organic light emitting body (10), and which is bonded to the substrate (1). The sealing substrate (2) has a protruding structure (11) that protrudes to the side opposite to the substrate (1). The organic electroluminescent element wherein light emission failures and deterioration due to warping of the sealing substrate (2) are suppressed can be obtained. |
