PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission of an outboard engine which improves power performance, fuel consumption performance and so forth while performing smoothly and adequately speed control.SOLUTION: A transmission 33 includes in a transmission chamber 37: a drive shaft 22; a counter shaft 38 which is arranged in parallel with the drive shaft 22; a gear train 39 which is bridged between a drive shaft input axis 22A and the counter shaft 38 and between a drive shaft output axis 22B and the counter shaft 38 respectively; and a dog clutch mechanism 40 which selectively switches between a high speed stage and a low speed stage. A driver driving the dog clutch mechanism 40 includes a hydraulic drive device driven by a hydraulic cylinder, and the hydraulic cylinder is arranged in the transmission chamber.
