<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to reduce downtime of the apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor 1, a lubricant applicator 3 for applying lubricant onto a surface of the photoreceptor 1, and a charging device 2 which uniformly charges the surface of the photoreceptor 1. A residual lubricant detection mechanism 40 detects that the amount of remaining lubricant is equal to or less than a predetermined amount. The residual lubricant detection mechanism 40 is configured to select lubricant consumption reducing mode which performs image forming operation by reducing the consumption of lubricant after detecting that the amount of remaining lubricant is equal to or less than the predetermined amount, or normal image formation mode. A charging bias formed by superimposing an AC voltage on a DC voltage is applied to charging means. In the lubricant consumption reducing mode, a charging frequency of the AC voltage is made lower than that in the normal image forming mode.</p> |
