<p>A steering apparatus includes a collision absorber 20, which in a most preferred embodiment is provided on a surface 9b of a housing 9 opposite a rack end 10. Absorber 20 includes an elastic member 22 on a radially outer side of a rack shaft 6 to absorb a collision load from rack end 10, and a preferably cylindrical shock absorber 23 on an inner peripheral side of elastic member 22 and configured to buckle when abutted by rack end 10. Elastic member 22 may extend axially further outward than shock absorber 23. Alternatively the absorption member can be provided on the rack end and can absorb a collision load from the housing. Elastic member 22 may comprise an elastomer, such as natural rubber or urethane e resin, and shock absorber 23 may be metallic.</p> |
