PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound for thickening an organic liquid by addition thereof in an extremely small amount for solation or viscous liquid formation, particularly enabling solation at high temperature.SOLUTION: There is provided a thickener comprising a compound represented by the general formula (1) in the figure, where n and m each represent an integer from 2 to 18; Rand Reach represent a C0-6 branched or linear alkylene group; Rrepresents a C3-18 branched or linear alkylene group; and one of Xand Xrepresents a sulfonyl group and the other represents a thio group.
