<p>The invention relates to an ultrasound imaging system comprising an ultrasound probe and an imaging unit. The mechanically scanned, handheld probe is formed of a probe body (101) and a transducer, and contains reduced channels counts (2-4 array elements). Mechanically scanning is performed by the operator's hand movements. Movement of the probe, which emits and collects one dimensional ultrasound signals, is monitored by inertial sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope), in particular MEMS sensors. The effect of gravity on acceleration is removed. The acceleration and rotation data are converted into position data, which is then used for the construction of the ultrasound image. Due to significantly simplified transducer electronics the system cost is reduced.</p> |
