In this method for cleaning the surface of a glass film (1b) by means of roller brushes (2) disposed at a conveyance pathway rotating in the reverse direction against the direction of conveyance of a band-shaped body while conveying the band shaped body (1), which results from the ends of a band-shaped glass film (1b) and a leader (1a) being joined by means of a sheet-shaped joining member (1c) pasted to the surfaces of the ends, when the joining member (1c) passes the location of disposition of the roller brushes (2), the roller brushes (2) are caused to rotate in the forward direction emulating the direction of conveyance of the band-shaped body (1).
