PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide in-situ preparation of peracid-based removable antimicrobial coating compositions, and to provide methods of use for controlling microorganisms at various loci.SOLUTION: An antimicrobial liquid coating composition comprises: i) a water-soluble or water-dispersible film-forming agent, such as polyvinyl alcohols, polyvinyl alcohol copolymers and polyvinyl pyrrolidones; ii) an inert solvent; iii) a peroxyacid precursor such as tetraacetylethylenediamine; iv) a peroxygen source such as sodium peroxide; v) a rheology modifier for providing shear-thinning properties; and vi) a quaternary ammonium antimicrobial agent. The coating composition has a shear-thinning index of 1.5 to 6.0 and viscosity, as measured at 10°C and a shear rate, of 1 sof 0.5 to 100 Pa*s, and contains at least one peroxyacid antimicrobial agent. A method for in-situ controlling microorganisms comprises the steps of: in-situ applying the composition; and allowing the composition to dry, thereby in-situ forming a coating. |
