PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte with which a lithium secondary battery excellent in low temperature discharge characteristics and battery storage characteristics can be achieved.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte contains a phosphonoacetic acid compound represented by formula (I) [in the formula (I), Rand Reach independently represents a group represented by formula (II), Rrepresents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms, a haloalkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms, or a group represented by formula (II), and Rand Reach independently represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms or a halogen atom.
