The present invention provides a control apparatus for a hybrid vehicle drive system to allow the proper backward movement of a vehicle. Provided is an electronic control apparatus (30) for a hybrid vehicle drive system (10) to perform proper reverse driving. An engine starting control portion (72) is configured to initiate engine starting control to start the engine (12) after a clutch release determining portion (74) determines that a clutch (CL1) is released, when the engine starting control is implemented while the output gear (28) is rotated in a reverse direction by torque generated by at least one side of first and second electric motors (MG1, MG2). Therefore, the conversion of the rotating direction of an output gear (28) into the forward direction in accordance with the rise of the rotating speed of an engine (12) is restrained. |
