PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for improving the precision of a train speed detecting device for detecting the speed a train by utilizing a Doppler radar type sensor.SOLUTION: A train 1 is equipped on a bottom face 2 with a Doppler radar type sensor 20. This Doppler radar type sensor 20 is disposed at a predetermined inclination angleθwith respect to a track bed 90. The train 1 is equipped with a velocity calculating part 10 for estimating the horizontal velocity of the train 1, i.e, the advance speed on the basis of the velocity component detected by the Doppler radar type sensor 20. The velocity calculating part 10 calculates distance information RHand velocity information Von the basis of the reflection wave for the sent wave radiated in the obliquely forward irradiation direction, and estimates a train speed RV1 (the true estimated speed) from the installation altitude information h at the time when the Doppler radar type sensor 20 is disposed.
