The purpose of the present invention is to provide a thermally conductive complex oxide having excellent thermal conductivity, water resistance, acid resistance, and electrical insulation properties, which is capable of providing physical properties required by a coating film, a film, or a molded article that are obtained when combined with a paint or resin composition, by being used alone and without requiring improvement measures such as surface treatment. Said purpose is achieved by a thermally conductive complex oxide and a production method therefor, said complex oxide having: aluminum as a main metal component thereof; and a spindle structure containing at least one type of metal other than aluminum. The metal other than aluminum is at least one type selected from a group comprising magnesium, zinc, calcium, and strontium, has a ratio ((b mols)/(a mols)) of 0.1-1.0 between the number of mols (a) of aluminum element in an alumina-based compound and the number of mols (b) of the metal other than aluminum, and a Mohs hardness of less than 9. |
