PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a Fresnel lens type, an image display device, and a drive device for providing high quality display.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, a liquid crystal lens device including a liquid crystal optical element and a drive unit is provided. The liquid crystal optical element includes a first substrate section; a second substrate section; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrate sections. The first substrate section includes a first substrate; a plurality of first electrodes; and a plurality of second electrodes. The first electrodes are provided on the first substrate, extend in a first direction, and are arranged in a direction non-parallel to the first direction. The second electrodes are provided between the first electrodes. The second substrate section includes a second substrate and a counter electrode. The drive unit changes a voltage between the first electrodes and the counter electrode from a first voltage to a second voltage higher than the first voltage, and changes a voltage between the second electrodes and the counter electrode from a third voltage to a fourth voltage higher than the third voltage. The drive unit applies the fourth voltage after applying the second voltage. |
