Automated Manufacturing of Shoe Parts

Manufacturing of a shoe or a portion of a shoe is enhanced by executing various shoe-manufacturing processes in an automated fashion. For example, information describing a shoe part may be determined, such as an identification, an orientation, a color, a surface topography, an alignment, a size, etc. Based on the information describing the shoe part, automated shoe-manufacturing apparatuses may be instructed to apply various shoe-manufacturing processes to the shoe part.

1. An apparatus for manufacturing shoe parts in an automated manner, the apparatus comprising:
a computing device communicatively coupled to a part-recognition system; and a pick-up tool directed by the computing device and adapted to:
retrieve a first shoe part in a first orientation from a first manufacturing station, wherein the part-recognition system determines a first identity and the first orientation of the first shoe part; andtransfer the first shoe part onto a second shoe part in a second orientation at a second manufacturing station by transferring the first shoe part from its first orientation to a third orientation relative to the second shoe part, wherein the part-recognition apparatus determines the second orientation and a second identity of the second shoe part, and wherein the third orientation is determined based on the second orientation and the second identity of the second shoe part.
