The present invention provides: a non-aqueous electrolyte that exhibits excellent overcharge prevention ability and that is capable of maintaining low internal resistance and high electrical capacity even after charging and discharging; and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that uses the non-aqueous electrolyte. Specifically, the non-aqueous electrolyte comprises a lithium salt that is dissolved in an organic solvent, contains at least one type of compound that is represented by formula (1), and is for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising: an anode in which lithium can be intercalated or de-intercalated; a cathode that contains a transition metal and lithium; and the non-aqueous electrolyte that comprises a lithium salt that is dissolved in an organic compound.
