According to the invention, the starter (10) further comprises at least one shock absorbing device (61) installed between the ring gear (46) and the housing (16), and capable of absorbing, by means of shearing, the shocks experienced by the ring gear (46) when the starting of the heat engine causes the relative angular movement of the ring gear (46) with regard to the housing (16).
