In various embodiments, a remote client is allowed to access at least a part of a connection service located on alternate sources other than the primary remote presentation server. In some embodiments, the remote presentation virtual channels may be split into multiple connections with the purpose of allowing better flow control. Some embodiments may be implemented in a virtual machine environment for cases in which the data to be transferred through a data channel is located in the host virtual machine partition but the remote endpoint is located on the guest virtual machine partition.

1. In a computing system comprising a processor and memory, a method for transmitting remote presentation data to a client computer, the method comprising:
establishing a first connection between a first data source and the client computer, the first connection established using a lossless protocol; determining that the remote presentation data comprises first data provided by the first data source and second data provided by a second data source; negotiating connection capabilities with the client computer to determine that the client computer can support a second connection and establishing the second connection with the second data source, wherein the second connection is established using one of a lossless protocol or a lossy protocol; and directing the client computer to maintain the first and second connections to manage data flow control in virtual channels formed between the client computer and at least one of the first data source and the second data source via the first and second connections, the virtual channels used by the client computer and to receive said remote presentation data including said first data using the first connection and said second data using the second connection.
