a microbicidal composition for inhibiting growth of microbes comprising gentamicin and at least one propionate; at least one biosensor; and a means for applying said microbicidal composition to at least a portion of said biosensor and wherein the microbicidal composition does not substantially affect a biological activity of the at least one biosensor.
